About
Together with other disciplines, basic plant research faces the challenge of establishing a research data management system which meets both the needs of the community and allows the collection, processing, exchange and archiving of research datasets based on the FAIR principles. Focused on this goal, the work of the DataPLANT Consortium is organized in four task areas. In Task Area I, topics such as data quality, interoperability, and standardization are pursued. In a first step, widely used ontologies and their application will be supported. Furthermore, the completion of these ontologies by adding new terms should be as smooth as possible for the user. Task Area II (Infrastructure, Software and Service) will provide the infrastructural basis for the developed tools. The DataPLANT hub will serve as a central access point. The personnel support of the researchers is ensured by data stewards, whose training, as well as the coordination of the community contact, falls into the scope of Task Area III. Finally, Task Area IV is responsible for the communication within the project, as well as the integration into the overall NFDI and the promotion of joint efforts.

Schema.org as a Lightweight Harmonization Approach for NFDISchema.org is a controlled vocabulary that makes it easier for web pages to describe their actual content in a semantic, structured and machine-processable way. It is recognized by major search engines and data aggregators, making it easier for researchers to expose metadata describing their research outcomes. Here we present how Schema.org is used (or planned to be used) by some NFDI consortia, becoming a lightweight approach to harmonize digital objects coming from different sources so they can be connected to each other in a meaningful way.
