About
The NFDI4Memory consortium brings together research institutions, memory institutions and information infrastructures from the humanities working in history. As part of the community, the applicants and participants pursue common interests and goals regarding the requirements for research data management (FDM) in those disciplines that rely on historical methods or data. A central concern is to develop the specific tradition of source criticism for the digital age. Without recommendations and guidelines, researchers lack guidance on how to select and adhere to appropriate standards. Existing data standards are often subject-specific or not widely applicable, limiting data interoperability. What is needed is an on-demand, integrating, service-based infrastructure that enables a coherent data space for the community. Due to a lack of training, many researchers lack the basic skills necessary to use digital approaches to improve workflows, gain new perspectives from analysing digital data, and expand their source criticism with digital methods. Incentives for data publication are lacking, signaling to researchers that they are not benefiting their work or careers. Finally, low institutional support conditions researchers to remain disconnected from necessary FDM efforts.
